That's really 2 different jobs.
Terrain editing is a world in it's own for arma.
Modelling buildings and anything else is another job.
Also you are not allowed to edit other people's terrains, especially Taviana.
BI has only released the source for one terrain, generally people created the...
Welcome to Arma Modding!
I'm 2 years in, and regularly have complete breakdowns in functionality of tools or the game itself due to install/modding issues... it's the most horrific modding platform in the universe I think.
It is crazy robust, capable, and addictive though :'-(
Armaholic is...

That's how you learn to make a terrain in Arma. It's a 48 page guide to a 12 page tutorial.
On average, to build a "from scratch" terrain would take in the neighborhood of 1-2 years for an experienced terrain artist.
Almost anyone who...
I hadn't touched anything arma since my last post... I picked it up again tonight a bit, got a few of the little things on the buildings cleaned up, but they're still not done.
I'm going to use w'ever time I can to finish those off, then get them down on the terrain, release an update, and then...
Have had a lot of personal obligations the past few weeks, think I have most of it sorted now. Should have some time to work on finishing the buildings in the next few weeks.
I ended up putting an IR filter on the camera and it improved performance a LOT. I don't use it very often now, the headset I rigged it to broke, and I don't play as often as I used to.... but it was/is an AMAZING addition to the game for immersion.
Well, been going back over, trying to do the models better, I would love to have a means of actually benchmarking the differences, but the section count was huge on my models due to tons of un-merged textures.
I'm working from scratch now, I'm basically going to re-do all 3 of the buildings...
Focus, Follow Through, not exactly my strong suits... but look what I did in the meantime lol:
Pimping out the A1 hotel a little bit lol.
I want to see if I can do an infiniti pool where you can see out the side, but I don't THINK it's possible.
Again, going to shelf this, and try to...
I have to learn how to focus.... I started on the A2 hotel for some reason...
Not sure what I was thinking on that one, that does me no good lol.... Got the layout for the stairs done, and started on the elevators. All the rooms/floors will need texturing so I'm going to not do this one for...
I actually cheated, it's a model with nothing but proxies, and the Geo/Roadway lods... I couldn't get the lods to work by proxy... but I didn't play with it too much. When I go back to this project I will see if I can get it working.
Where there is a will, there is a way lol...
A video of the most utterly pointless building ever made... BUT clear proof that there is no reason not to have every room in every building open...
and.... dreams shattered, sort of. Roadway/Geo LOD etc don't get carried into the new model when they're proxied in, so there has to be a "base" model for every size in order for it to have all the LODs, not the end of the world, but would have been super cool to just plop down sections...
Couldn't help myself, worked on it all day... I'm making ONE foundation that has space for a hallway to get to the elevator in back. The foundation model is pretty much all set now. I just have to work on won seam where it meets the middle section. The middle and the top seem to line up fine...
Well, as they say, the devil is in the details, it's getting very nit-picky trying to make the buildings all stitch together perfectly. I'm not sure if I'm burnt out and making mistakes, or if the buildings are slightly different, but it's ALMOST there.
I'm not sure if I'm going to work on it...
Yeah, I could have 10-20 random floor layouts for the furniture, and it could then randomize them for each floor of each building, make not only every room, different, but each building also...
Add to this the thought of doing all new furniture some of which maybe reflects signs of damage or...
Hahaha, well, so much for not playing with the idea...
What I did was make the floors, the stairs, the railing, the ladder, ALL modular.
So the models are crazy low poly, and it's obviously a lot easier to edit/update them. It also leaves you with TONS of room to decorate each floor of the...
Yeah for sure. The thing is though, if the building is already enterable, you can just do a replace all instead of hunting down each one and placing them by hand. Since these 3 are enterable I'm going to do that first and then run around the map in game and make sure there are no major issues...
